The World Didn’t Implode: Choosing Peace Over Panic
I mean… is EVERYONE getting hacked?

Picture this: I’m pulling up to yoga, trying to find a moment of peace in my otherwise overbooked, chaotic day, when all of a sudden I get a text from an old friend asking if I sent them an email about a collaboration. To my shock and dismay, no, I had not sent them the email, but it was indeed from my email account.
“BRUH! Are you fucking kidding me?” was my initial thought because I don’t need anything else added to my to-do list on any given day of the week, but especially when I’m already in the middle of something. In this moment, I had two options: I could decide to forego yoga to figure out this issue, or I could decide to let it sit until after I took this ONE hour of the day for myself. I went with the latter. I texted my friends back, letting them know it wasn’t me, because by the time I was walking into yoga, multiple people had started texting me, and then I proceeded to enjoy my class.
This small decision rippled into other positive moments for me the remainder of the day. One, I ended up taking class from one of my favorite instructors because the person who was supposed to be teaching ended up getting sick. Two, I realized that my voice is very distinct whether I’m communicating with friends, former colleagues, or previous players’ parents. I’m very clear and detailed when I reach out to people, and the vagueness of the email was the biggest red flag for the majority of people who received it.
I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m even sharing this story right now, but as this blog is called Millennial Burnout, I feel as though there’s always something coming at us to throw us off our game. I could have easily stressed out and cancelled yoga to handle this problem, but instead I took the time I needed for myself, and guess what? The world didn’t implode, and nothing irreversible happened.
We are living in strange times, and we have to take care of ourselves and carve out moments to realign internally. We deserve space to decompress even if we know there’s chaos waiting for us on the other side; this is one thing I’m forcing myself to lean into this year. I have to take the time I need to keep myself grounded, or everything else will actually fall apart.
Journal prompt for the week: What are the ways you find grounding in your life, and how can you incorporate them into your schedule more often?
